Panel I - Building Trust
*John Settle is an attorney,
mediator, and trainer of mediators, with extensive experience in mediating workplace and
family disputes * Daniel McAllister is a
professor at the Graduate School of Business of Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
He has researched and written on the subject of trust and distrust.
Panel II- State of the Field
*Juliana Birkhoff was the Program Director for the Fund for Research on
Dispute Resolution, a $3 million research grants program, and was a professor at the
Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution for three years. Currently she is a
consultant at NIDR administering a $200,000 research dissemination grant. * Marsha
Blakeway is a MS graduate of ICAR and is a fellow of the National Peace Foundation. Her
area of specialty is conflict resolution in education and schools * Frank Dukes is
Associate Director of the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of
Virginia and has worked on projects involving environment and land use, community
development, education, and health * Chris Honeyman, managing partner of CONVENOR Dispute
Resolution (New York and Madison, WI), is the principal investigator of "Theory to
Practice," a Hewlett Foundation-funded effort to help ADR's practitioner and academic
communities interrelate better * Dennis Sandole, a professor at ICAR specializes in
generic theory and practice, ethnic conflict, and post-cold war peace and security
systems.
Panel III- Diversity
* Sharon Bailey has developed school and community-based violence
prevention programming for parents, teachers, and youth. She currently is the director of
a new initiative, Diverse Traditions, a program of the National Conference on Peacemaking
and Conflict Resolution * Sandy Cheldelin is a professor at ICAR and specializes in
intraorganizational and public-sector conflict, multiparty issues, and psychological
dimensions of conflict. * Marvin Johnson provides training and lectures on the subject of
diversity and conflict management. He is a board member of SPIDR, chairs the SPIDR
Diversity Committee, and is a member of the Maryland ADR Commission. * Gwen Whiting is a
Ph.D. candidate at ICAR and is a diversity trainer in the greater Washington, DC area ~
Panel IV - Ethics
*Frank Blechman is a clinical professor at ICAR and coordinator of the MS
program. He is the faculty advisor to the field practicum team on intergroup conflict in
schools * Karen Leichtnam oversees the civil dispute resolution programs at the DC
Superior Court's Multi-Door Division, where she has worked in various capacities since
1988 * Sam Jackson is an attorney and mediator in McLean, VA and serves on the Board of
the Virginia Mediation Network * Regina Olchowski is a professional mediator, trainer, and
guest lecturer in the field of conflict resolution. Regina also serves on the Board of
Directors for the Northern Virginia Mediation Service * Jeannette Twomey is President of
the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Mediation Services, and is a highly
experienced mediator and conflict resolution trainer with a background in law and
community affairs.
