The Infrastructure of Conflict Management:
Program Design and Finance

Conflict management as a field has yet to be truly integrated into our society and economy. For those trying to understand that long process, selected background documents are offered here.

  • Finding and Hiring Quality Neutrals: What Every Government Official Needs to Know
    Overview

    Full Text

This in-depth discussion examines many of the most difficult issues facing mediators and dispute resolution program managers in federal agencies. With Chris Honeyman, Charles Pou, Jr., and ten other contributors. Published 1996 by U.S. EPA and seven other federal and state agencies. At approx. 70 pages, this document is best viewed in printed form. A brief overview is followed by the full publication in a printer-friendly format. (Also listed on the "quality" page.)

  • Financing Dispute Resolution
    Overview

    Full Text

This discusses the financial state of six sectors of the dispute resolution field, and proposes some possibilities for improved strategies. It is based on a 1994-95 study conducted by Chris Honeyman as a consultant to the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Published 1996 by the National Institute for Dispute Resolution. At approx. 40 pages, this document is most easily read in printed form. A brief overview is followed by the full publication.

  • Two Out of Three

This Honeyman article argues that except in unusual circumstances, the three main strengths of ADR cannot all be achieved by any single program—because to a considerable extent, they turn out to be mutually exclusive in real-world applications. The article appeared in the January 1995 issue of Negotiation Journal and is based on the author's keynote address to the 1994 annual conference of the Massachusetts Association of Mediation Programs.

This Honeyman paper was published in the 1992 conference proceedings of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR).
